WET AREAS
Bathroom & Wet Area Waterproofing
Bathroom leakage is rarely about the tiles. It is about what was or was not done to the slab underneath them.
SYMPTOMS
What You Are Probably Seeing
Leakage shows up somewhere other than where it starts. These are the signs we look for — and what each one usually means.
Damp on the wall of the adjoining room
Water tracking sideways through the wall from the shower area. The source is usually the floor-wall junction.
Ceiling stain in the room below
The slab is passing water. Re-grouting the tiles above will not address it.
Loose or hollow-sounding tiles
Water has reached the bedding layer and broken the bond.
Persistent smell near the floor drain
A failed seal at the drain penetration — one of the two most common wet-area leak points.
OUR METHOD
How We Approach It
The same four steps on every job. The system changes; the method does not.
01
Identify whether tiles must come up
Sometimes a transparent surface system is enough. Often it is not, and we will say so rather than sell you the cheaper answer.
02
Waterproof the slab, not the finish
A continuous membrane on the screed, carried up the walls to above splash height.
03
Detail drains and pipe penetrations
Reinforcement fabric and sealant at every penetration — these are where wet areas actually fail.
04
Seal the junctions
Floor-to-wall and wall-to-wall junctions treated as movement joints, not as flat surface.
